Once again McArthurGlen hosted lunch on the beach at MAPIC last week, celebrating the 21st year of consecutive sales growth for the business. McArthurGlen is currently fulfilling a record expansion plan that will see total retail space increase from 600,000 sq m today to nearly 900,000 sq m by 2020 including the opening of six new designer outlets in five countries and the expansion of eight of its existing centres. Julia Calabrese, CEO of McArthurGlen Group, said: “Our three-pronged approach of organic growth, new development, and acquisition is paying dividends. Our newly-acquired centre Ochtrup performed exceptionally well. We are 75% leased in Provence, our first south of France designer outlet, and excited about beginning construction on McArthurGlen Málaga in 2017. We have also just seen record weekend footfall at our flagship designer outlet Serravalle, near Milan.”
McArthurGlen teamed up with Nike for the second year running to stage a series of inspirational ‘Young Athletes Activation’ events for children during the month of August 2016. Designed to encourage youngsters aged 5-12 to enjoy an active lifestyle, the events took place at eight McArthurGlen designer outlets in seven countries - Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and the UK. Professional trainers were on hand to coach the children in sports, street dancing and body workout – and present each participant with an official diploma and a goody bag.

‘Twist’, a new art installation created by Mario Airò and commissioned by McArthurGlen, was unveiled on the terrace of Milan’s Triennale Design Museum before it heads to the newly-expanded Serravalle Designer Outlet in October. The event was hosted by Joan Jove, McArthurGlen’s Managing Director – Southern Europe, and curator Angela Vettese.
McArthurGlen’s Founder and Chairman, JW Kaempfer, hosted his company's annual Christmas party for brand partners in Milan last week. Guests from labels such as Gucci, Versace, Valentino and Ermenegildo Zegna were served the finest Italian food and wine at the world-renowned Peck Gourmet Food Hall where McArthurGlen holds its holiday party every year.
McArthurGlen hosted a lunch on the beach last week in Cannes during the MAPIC conference 2015. Guests from the world’s leading international fashion brands and key players from the retail property market joined the McArthurGlen team for lunch. It was the perfect backdrop to discuss McArthurGlen Provence, opening in 2017 and to celebrate the recent acquisition of the Ochtrup outlet. Also showcased were our new projects in Normandie, Istanbul, Málaga, Ghent and Remscheid, as well as extensions to eight of our existing centres across Europe.
Last year saw McArthurGlen and Vogue partner up to deliver a fantastic pop-up charity shop featuring exclusively donated clothes and accessories from fashion icons and celebrities. This year, as part of Vogue’s Fashion Night Out, the pop-up shop is back with donations from Karl Lagerfeld, Julianne Moore, Rihanna and Vogue Italia’s editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani. The charity shop, which aims to help the IEO-CCM (European Institute of Oncology) Foundation, opened on the 18th September at the Florence Barberino outlet. Coveted and unique items include a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo sunglasses worn by Sarah Jessica Parker and one of Taylor Swift’s handbags. The launch of the shop was a great success with Franca Sozzani and famous Italian fashion blogger Elisa Taviti in attendance. The pop-up store will be open until the 15th November with all proceeds being donated to the IEO.
Godfrey Gao, the Taiwanese-born international supermodel and actor, was on location at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Vancouver Airport last weekend, much to the delight of the many shoppers out in force that day. The Vancouver-raised supermodel has been appointed as the Canadian tourism ambassador for the Chinese market. He was at McArthurGlen’s newest Designer Outlet for the filming of Destination Canada’s latest series of the Zhou You Jia Na Da (Travel Around Canada) TV Show. Each biweekly online episode, which promotes Canada as a top destination for the Chinese traveller, draws on average more than one million viewers. The visit was strongly endorsed by the Canadian Tourism Commission, who sees the designer outlet as a strong draw for visitors to Vancouver given that outlet shopping is at the top of every Chinese travellers’ must-do list. The new centre also enhances the appeal of Vancouver’s retail and leisure entertainment offer. Being a fashion icon, Godfrey also found some time to do a spot of shopping while at the centre!
With summer drawing to a close, McArthurGlen’s Summer Festival has welcomed hundreds of thousands of locals and tourists alike to spend an evening at the five McArthurGlen Designer Outlets across Italy, listening to the sounds of a star-studded line up of performers … and to take in some shopping till midnight! Headline acts included: British star John Newman; Italian-English acoustic singer Jack Savoretti; and cult Italian singer/songwriter Francesco De Gregori; together with Italian X-Factor star Chiara and Platinum-selling artist Annalisa. Still to come in the run-up to the end of August is the concert by Italian jazz legend Mario Biondi at McArthurGlen Noventa on 22 August, and the closing parties at all five centres.
Thursday 9 July marked the eagerly anticipated opening of McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Vancouver Airport, the first designer outlet in Greater Vancouver. The opening was hugely successful, attracting more than 160,000 shoppers over the weekend - a record for McArthurGlen. The images below capture the opening days festivities, including the presentation of SEI, a 12-metre long representation of a whale breaching out of the water by local visual artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas.
The world’s coolest female-only car tour, Cash & Rocket, set off from London on 14 May with McArthurGlen as tour partner for the second-year running. At the wheel of McArthurGlen’s Team No. 17 was Mollie King of platinum girl group The Saturdays, together with co-drivers British fashion & beauty commentator Patricia Bright and Ella Catliff, the name behind acclaimed fashion blog La Petite Anglaise. Winding its way across Europe, the tour stopped for lunch and a spot of shopping at Europe’s largest luxury designer outlet, McArthurGlen’s Serravalle Designer Outlet near Milan. The ‘fund-racing’ initiative - with the finishing line at the Cannes Film Festival - is to raise funds for three key African charities, Orphan Aid Africa, Sumbandila and Shine on Sierra Leone.
To celebrate the opening of Swindon’s Longshop extension, the McArthurGlen Vintage Festival kicked off at Swindon Designer Outlet on 1 May. The Festival saw the arrival for the first time in the UK of a pop-up store featuring vintage clothing and accessories from Italian-based A.N.G.E.L.O.’s collection of 180,000 pieces – the largest and most renowned in Europe, featuring names from Chanel to Gucci. McArthurGlen’s Vintage Festival will be open at Swindon till 17 May, when it travels to York Designer Outlet from 21 May till 7 June.
McArthurGlen’s annual Christmas Party took place at Milan’s world-renowned Peck Gourmet Food Hall on 10 December. Around 230 guests attended the gastronomic event, hosted by McArthurGlen’s Founder and Chairman, JW Kaempfer, and now a popular feature on Milan’s social calendar. Guests included top representatives from brands such as Gucci, Versace, Burberry and Tod’s together with Elio Fiorucci, producer Luchino Visconti di Modrone and his wife Sava Bisazza Terracini, photographer Guido Taroni, artist and blogger Silvia Di Paolo, fashion blogger Linda Tol and celebrity DJ Graziano Della Nebbia, both of whom were chosen as McArthurGlen’s New Denim Icons earlier this year. With Peck’s 131 years at the forefront of Italy’s culinary tradition, the sparkling event offered guests the opportunity to sample some of the best in Italian food and wine. Later in the evening, guests then had the opportunity to take part in McArthurGlen’s very own culinary talent competition, judged by celebrity chef Carlos Cracco, also of MasterChef Italy. The winning team received a signed copy of Carlos’ new book, with all attending returning home with a few more culinary techniques at their fingertips.

The global strength of the British luxury industry was celebrated at the 13th annual Walpole British Luxury Awards, with Shaeren McKenzie, McArthurGlen’s Group Marketing Director, presenting Bottega Veneta with the award for Best International Brand. The awards, held at London’s V&A on 3 November, were hosted by Walpole CEO Michelle Emmerson and British presenter Jodie Kidd. The winners were chosen for having pushed the boundaries in luxury and excelled in quality, design, craftsmanship and service. Together with Bottega Veneta, the 13 award winners included Charlotte Tilbury (Emerging British Luxury Brand), with CEO Demetra Pinsent on hand to accept the award from Nadja Swarowiski; Burberry (British Luxury Brand Advertising Campaign); Stella McCartney (Corporate Social Responsibility); and Joan Burstein CBE, founder of Browns, who was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Alexandra Shulman, Editor of British Vogue. Key figures from the British luxury industry in attendance also included Anya Hindmarch, MBE, and Jo Malone, MBE. Earlier this year Jo joined the Board of Walpole British Luxury.
McArthurGlen has launched its second vintage pop-up store this year in partnership with Vogue Italia and the IEO Foundation (the European Institute of Oncology), with all proceeds going directly to the foundation. Guests attending the launch on the 15th September at Serravalle Designer Outlet near Milan included Franca Sozzani (Vogue Italia’s Editor-in-Chief), top model Marpessa Hennink, actress Ashley Madekwe, celebrity DJ Graziano Della Nebbia and fashion blogger Linda Tol.
Last night McArthurGlen and The Business of Fashion hosted an exclusive dinner in celebration of BoF Careers, the global platform for fashion talent. The dinner was held at Mortons in Berkeley square and attended by influencers from the worlds of Fashion and Media. Guests included, Anya Hindmarch, Joan Burstein of Browns, Erdem Moralioglu, the duo behind Peter Pilotto, Mary Katrantzou, Jonathan Akeroyd of Alexander McQueen, Zach Duane of Victoria Beckham, Caroline Rush of the British Fashion Council, legendary Fashion writer Colin McDowell, stylist and creative director Alister Mackie, Jane Bruton of Grazia, Lorraine Candy of ELLE, Lisa Armstrong of The Telegraph and Jessica Bumpus of Vogue, to name a few.
On 12 March, McArthurGlen held an exclusive launch event to celebrate the opening of the new Polo Ralph Lauren store in Designer Outlet Neumünster. Around 300 VIP guests were invited to celebrate with early shopping access, additional savings as well as champagne and canapés.
McArthurGlen’s Vintage Fashion Festival, created by A.N.G.E.L.O., the Italian owner of Europe's biggest vintage collection has this year toured all five of our Italian centres as well as Salzburg, Athens, Neumünster and Berlin. The festival is comprised of over 1,500 unique garments and accessories from such sought-after brands as Chanel, Dior, Emilio Pucci, Givenchy, Gucci, Hermès, Valentino, Versace and Yves Saint Laurent.
On 5 June 70 inspirational women from the worlds of fashion, the arts, media and business set off on a whirlwind fund-raising tour traveling in 35 vintage and luxury cars from Venice to London. This year McArthurGlen sponsored this special event which raised funds for three African non-government organisations: Shine on Sierra Leone, OrphanAid Africa and Sumbandila. The Cash and Rocket tour is a unique combination of adventure, philanthropy, friendship, solidarity and a little light-hearted competition making for an unmissable experience!
This Christmas, McArthurGlen’s centres have been brought alive with the festive tale of The Nutcracker, with giant ‘soldier’ nutcrackers, storybooks and ballet performances, together with visits from Santa Claus and traditional Christmas parades. There was plenty to look forward to at this year’s Summer Festival, which took place at our five Italian centres. Shoppers enjoyed fun-filled evenings of musical delights, including live concerts, children’s entertainment, DJ sets, as well as special offers. Live performances came from the likes of Boney M, The Platinum ABBA tribute band and Imagination, featuring Leee John – a great combination of old tunes and new talent!

In a joint partnership with Vogue Italia and the IEO (European Institute of Oncology) Foundation, Barberino Designer Outlet has launched The Vintage Project pop-up shop. This unique concept offers fashion lovers exclusive vintage pieces, at affordable prices, while at the same time raising funds to support oncological research.
McArthurGlen celebrated Christmas in Milan this year at the famous Peck Gourmet Food Hall. It was the perfect evening to enjoy cocktails and sample some of Italy’s culinary delights. Guests included representatives from Gucci, Hugo Boss, Polo Ralph Lauren, Salvatore Ferragamo as well as the editors-in-chief from Vogue and Vanity Fair.
This year's celebrations of Vogue Fashion's Night Out in Italy will extend for the first time beyond the fashionable shopping streets of Milan and Florence to all five of McArthurGlen's Italian Designer Outlets. VFNO 2013 launched on 12 September in Florence, moving on to Barberino Designer Outlet (pictured), where Franca Sozzani, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Italia, popped into the centre. The event then travels to Serravalle Designer Outlet (Milan), Castel Romano (Rome), Noventa di Piave (Venice) and La Reggia (Naples).
Designer Outlet Salzburg hosted its annual Late Night Shopping event on 7 November. The event, now in its fourth year, welcomed a record number of shoppers from around the world, attracted by the range of great entertainment, from fashion shows to beauty workshops, which went on till around midnight. German TV presenter Sonya Kraus welcomed this year's line-up of international star guests, including renowned model and DJ Leigh Lezark and New York DJ Mike Nouveau who chose the music for the evening.

This year’s Summer Music Festival at McArthurGlen’s five Italian Designer Outlets attracted a staggering half a million fashion and music lovers, with 13 free evening concerts over the last two weeks of July. The fantastic line-up included acts such as Lisa Stansfield, Caro Emerald, and Simona Molinari, all featured below, as well as James McCartney, Chick Corea and Chiara Galiazzo, among others.
