The global strength of the British luxury industry was celebrated at the 13th annual Walpole British Luxury Awards, with Shaeren McKenzie, McArthurGlen’s Group Marketing Director, presenting Bottega Veneta with the award for Best International Brand. The awards, held at London’s V&A on 3 November, were hosted by Walpole CEO Michelle Emmerson and British presenter Jodie Kidd. The winners were chosen for having pushed the boundaries in luxury and excelled in quality, design, craftsmanship and service. Together with Bottega Veneta, the 13 award winners included Charlotte Tilbury (Emerging British Luxury Brand), with CEO Demetra Pinsent on hand to accept the award from Nadja Swarowiski; Burberry (British Luxury Brand Advertising Campaign); Stella McCartney (Corporate Social Responsibility); and Joan Burstein CBE, founder of Browns, who was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Alexandra Shulman, Editor of British Vogue. Key figures from the British luxury industry in attendance also included Anya Hindmarch, MBE, and Jo Malone, MBE. Earlier this year Jo joined the Board of Walpole British Luxury.
McArthurGlen has launched its second vintage pop-up store this year in partnership with Vogue Italia and the IEO Foundation (the European Institute of Oncology), with all proceeds going directly to the foundation. Guests attending the launch on the 15th September at Serravalle Designer Outlet near Milan included Franca Sozzani (Vogue Italia’s Editor-in-Chief), top model Marpessa Hennink, actress Ashley Madekwe, celebrity DJ Graziano Della Nebbia and fashion blogger Linda Tol.
Last night McArthurGlen and The Business of Fashion hosted an exclusive dinner in celebration of BoF Careers, the global platform for fashion talent. The dinner was held at Mortons in Berkeley square and attended by influencers from the worlds of Fashion and Media. Guests included, Anya Hindmarch, Joan Burstein of Browns, Erdem Moralioglu, the duo behind Peter Pilotto, Mary Katrantzou, Jonathan Akeroyd of Alexander McQueen, Zach Duane of Victoria Beckham, Caroline Rush of the British Fashion Council, legendary Fashion writer Colin McDowell, stylist and creative director Alister Mackie, Jane Bruton of Grazia, Lorraine Candy of ELLE, Lisa Armstrong of The Telegraph and Jessica Bumpus of Vogue, to name a few.
On 12 March, McArthurGlen held an exclusive launch event to celebrate the opening of the new Polo Ralph Lauren store in Designer Outlet Neumünster. Around 300 VIP guests were invited to celebrate with early shopping access, additional savings as well as champagne and canapés.
McArthurGlen’s Vintage Fashion Festival, created by A.N.G.E.L.O., the Italian owner of Europe's biggest vintage collection has this year toured all five of our Italian centres as well as Salzburg, Athens, Neumünster and Berlin. The festival is comprised of over 1,500 unique garments and accessories from such sought-after brands as Chanel, Dior, Emilio Pucci, Givenchy, Gucci, Hermès, Valentino, Versace and Yves Saint Laurent.
On 5 June 70 inspirational women from the worlds of fashion, the arts, media and business set off on a whirlwind fund-raising tour traveling in 35 vintage and luxury cars from Venice to London. This year McArthurGlen sponsored this special event which raised funds for three African non-government organisations: Shine on Sierra Leone, OrphanAid Africa and Sumbandila. The Cash and Rocket tour is a unique combination of adventure, philanthropy, friendship, solidarity and a little light-hearted competition making for an unmissable experience!
This Christmas, McArthurGlen’s centres have been brought alive with the festive tale of The Nutcracker, with giant ‘soldier’ nutcrackers, storybooks and ballet performances, together with visits from Santa Claus and traditional Christmas parades. There was plenty to look forward to at this year’s Summer Festival, which took place at our five Italian centres. Shoppers enjoyed fun-filled evenings of musical delights, including live concerts, children’s entertainment, DJ sets, as well as special offers. Live performances came from the likes of Boney M, The Platinum ABBA tribute band and Imagination, featuring Leee John – a great combination of old tunes and new talent!

The invitation-only event was held at the historical Syon House bringing together a carefully curated group of 140 of the most influential global leaders in the retail industry to discuss the future of retail. McArthurGlen’s Group Marketing Director Shaeren McKenzie spoke on the topic of ‘The Future of Retail’ alongside some of Britain’s leading designers, including Anya Hindmarch, Nicolas Kirkwood, Mary Katrantzou, Matthew Williamson, Peter Pilotto and Roksanda Ilinicic; and together with the likes of Godfrey Davis, Chairman Mulberry, Jason Basmajian, Creative Director Gieves & Hawkes, Jonathan Akeroyd, President & CEO Alexander McQueen, Mattias Magnusson, CEO Acne Studios, Pierre Denis, CEO Jimmy Choo and Zach Duane, CEO Victoria Beckham; and some of the top names in retail, including Andrew Keith, President, Lane Crawford & Joyce, and Stacy Cartwright, Harvey Nichols’ new Chief Executive. In a joint partnership with Vogue Italia and the IEO (European Institute of Oncology) Foundation, Barberino Designer Outlet has launched The Vintage Project pop-up shop. This unique concept offers fashion lovers exclusive vintage pieces, at affordable prices, while at the same time raising funds to support oncological research.
McArthurGlen celebrated Christmas in Milan this year at the famous Peck Gourmet Food Hall. It was the perfect evening to enjoy cocktails and sample some of Italy’s culinary delights. Guests included representatives from Gucci, Hugo Boss, Polo Ralph Lauren, Salvatore Ferragamo as well as the editors-in-chief from Vogue and Vanity Fair.
This year's celebrations of Vogue Fashion's Night Out in Italy will extend for the first time beyond the fashionable shopping streets of Milan and Florence to all five of McArthurGlen's Italian Designer Outlets. VFNO 2013 launched on 12 September in Florence, moving on to Barberino Designer Outlet (pictured), where Franca Sozzani, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Italia, popped into the centre. The event then travels to Serravalle Designer Outlet (Milan), Castel Romano (Rome), Noventa di Piave (Venice) and La Reggia (Naples).
Designer Outlet Salzburg hosted its annual Late Night Shopping event on 7 November. The event, now in its fourth year, welcomed a record number of shoppers from around the world, attracted by the range of great entertainment, from fashion shows to beauty workshops, which went on till around midnight. German TV presenter Sonya Kraus welcomed this year's line-up of international star guests, including renowned model and DJ Leigh Lezark and New York DJ Mike Nouveau who chose the music for the evening.
McArthurGlen kicked off MAPIC with a Provençal lunch on the beach, to celebrate the south of France’s first designer outlet – McArthurGlen Provence, on track to open in 2016. Guests from some of the leading international fashion brands including adidas, Desigual, Diesel, Levi’s, Polo Ralph Lauren, Scotch & Soda and Zadig & Voltaire, and key players from the retail property market enjoyed a game of pétanque while sampling culinary delights from the region. It was the perfect backdrop to discuss not only McArthurGlen Provence, but also our new projects in Ghent and Vancouver, as well extensions to eight of our existing centres across Europe.
This year’s Summer Music Festival at McArthurGlen’s five Italian Designer Outlets attracted a staggering half a million fashion and music lovers, with 13 free evening concerts over the last two weeks of July. The fantastic line-up included acts such as Lisa Stansfield, Caro Emerald, and Simona Molinari, all featured below, as well as James McCartney, Chick Corea and Chiara Galiazzo, among others.
